A twenty-one person voluntary Board of Directors from every province and territory directs and governs NAPO`s work. The distribution of seats is indicated by the list of Board members below. All of NAPO Board members have had personal experience with poverty. They are all active in their own communities working on issues of concern to poor people. The Board is assisted by a small staff who work out of NAPO`s office in Ottawa.
Every year, about half the seats are open for election. Anyone who lives or has lived in poverty may seek nomination. A call for nominations will be announced in NAPO News three or four months prior to the Annual General Meeting of NAPO, which is usually held in May. Where there are more nominations than Board vacancies in a particular geographical area, an election will be held with all members in that area voting by mail.
